Changes to the Family Court of Australia and The Federal Circuit Court

At the moment there are two Family Law Courts, The Family Court of Australia and The Federal Circuit Court of Australia.

From 1 January 2019 the Family Court of Australia and the Federal Circuit Court of Australia will be combined under the name 'The Federal Circuit Court and Family Court of Australia' (FCFC).

The FCFC will have two divisions:

  1. Division 1 - Continuation of the Family Court of Australia

  2. Division 2 - Continuation of the Federal Circuit Court of Australia

A new Family Law Appeal Division in a Federal Court of Australia will also be created to deal with all appeals in Family Law Matters.

The aim of these reforms is to help Families to resolve their disputes quicker by making access to the Law system much easier.
